CAS announces the 2024 HASI Foundation Climate Solutions scholarship winners
The need-based HASI Foundation Climate Solutions scholarship was to help CAS ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs pursue careers related to climate action and sustainability.
The 2024 ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ recipients, all seniors, are:
- Nina Azadi Ardekani, a Geology major also pursuing a certificate in Geographic Information Science
- Gillian Hart, a Environmental Earth Science major and Environmental Science co-major
- Taylor Hedrick, a Zoology major and Environmental Science co-major
- Zander Madden, a Zoology major and Environmental Science co-major
- James Normile, a Zoology major and Environmental Science co-major
The purpose of the HASI Foundation Climate Solutions scholarship, administered by Miami’s (IES), is to provide financial assistance for high-achieving, sustainability-focused ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs from underrepresented communities and/or who have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage or disabilities at Miami. Recipients are encouraged to seek mentorship opportunities with HASI employees.
“IES has been at the forefront of developing Miami’s sustainability goals,” said Jonathan Levy, director of IES. “Like HASI, we are exploring ways of reaching carbon neutrality that are not just economically feasible, but promote social justice as well. The alignment of our visions and missions make me particularly thankful to HASI for their generous support of our ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs.”
A luncheon meeting for scholarship recipients with the HASI team will be held in March to allow ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs to learn more information about the company and its sustainability efforts. Recipients will also be informed of potential mentorship and summer internship opportunities at HASI.
Available funds are awarded by the Office of Student Financial Assistance to junior and senior ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs co-majoring or minoring in programs within the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability and demonstrating financial need. Scholarships may be renewable so long as awarded ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 and satisfactory progress toward their degree.
